Urban expert
Developing methodology for selection of best practices

Rationale:

URBEST is a communication project on urban best practices aiming at involving relevant stakeholders in a wide debate on socio-economic and technological innovation in urban environmental regeneration.

Summary:

In URBEST a cycle of 9 months of TV programmes was broadcasted on a network of European TV Channels covering a population of 40 million Europeans. The TV programmes had a common structure. They showed examples of European best practices on urban regeneration, compared them with the local situation and a debate with local stakeholders was organised. Exchange of information among TV Channels ran through an Internet based information platform. TV programmes across Europe produced different debates reflecting local approaches.

The project brought together:

  • Content providers (experts in urban issues)
  • Development agencies, networks of cities
  • Communication experts (television producers and channels)
  • Local stakeholders (inhabitants, enterprises and policy-makers).

The network of experts in the different fields of urban regeneration which is affiliated with IIUE assisted with information and helped find and select best practice examples.

TV programmes will soon be available online.
